Gleaning From the Past

What can we take away from the past which now lies behind us? There are always lessons to be learned and experience to be gained as we reflect upon what has happened around us and to us in this season. I believe we should all be asking the Holy Spirit to show us what we can learn from the trials we have recently come out of.

We just witnessed the world go into panic mode from what the mainstream media told us all about Covid-19. I believe it would be wise to reflect upon how so many aspects of our lives were impacted and in so many specific areas. Many things that we took for granted were adversely affected and many people were shaken off course by the disturbance to daily life as usual.

The Lord has been admonishing us that these times were here, and He has been teaching us how to cope with society and the world in general as these trying times begin unfolding. If we look back and reflect on what God has been saying for many years now, He has been giving us the wisdom and tools we need to walk in His perfect love. So many times, God has been telling us to build our faith, to trust in Him in all areas of life. He has also taught us every aspect of spiritual warfare to overcome the enemy in our lives.

God’s teachings over the last few years has been gearing us up for this very time – these moments that we are stepping into. There is an expectation that we should have already been delivered, healed, trained, experienced and ready for battle as we step into tomorrow. But are we there, at this place? Will we be one of those faced with the onslaught of the tomorrow’s, finding ourselves huddled indoors believing that survival is the only option? Will the Lord’s teachings suddenly flash before our minds after it is too late, and leave a heavy condemnation upon us because we did not heed when we should have?

By God’s grace, may we not be one of those. It is not too late to repent and seek the Holy Spirit for guidance. So many precious souls in the world have been thrown off course, and we have witnessed that when things went from bad to worse, God had His hand upon His children. We did not starve, we did not perish, our needs were met and we were able to give hope to a hopeless world. God wants His light to shine even brighter within us when the darkness around us becomes thicker and darker. His Spirit is designed to manifest itself to dispel the darkness, and this is why we must not shy away from the opportunity we are afforded to be used by His Spirit.

Let us use this time to reflect. What can we do differently in the face of adversity? Perhaps we can face future trials with more confidence? Is there something we can do using our common sense to prepare for future afflictions that God has warned us about? Were we close enough to the Father when this calamity broke out into the world? It may be a good time to re-evaluate our standing with God while we have the opportunity, so that we may not be caught off guard in the future.
